08 numbers, such as a lo-call rate 0844 number, can be used to fund the Surgery Connect Phone System. 08 numbers carry a tariff to the caller, a portion of which is returned to the service provider and can partially, or even fully, cover the costs associated with running the service.
With public disquiet over the use of 08 numbers within the NHS, and other areas of the Health Sector, consideration needs to be given to likely perception of using an 08 number for any given medical service.
0844 Numbers
0844 non-geographic numbers provide your practice with a national phone presence along with the ability to generate revenue from inbound calls. 0844 numbers are charged to the caller at 5p per minute (inc. VAT) at all times. 0844 numbers are not premium rate and can be dialed from all landlines and mobiles.
0844 numbers are fully integrated with Surgery Connect providing improved patient/practice communication, with the tariff being used to reduce or cover the cost of the service.
0871 Numbers
0871 numbers are charged to the caller at a flat rate of 10p per minute (inc. VAT) at all times. 0871 numbers fall under the remit of PhonepayPlus from August 1st 2009 and are being regulated as Premium Rate numbers. As such 0871 numbers are not the preferred choice for the Health Sector.
